What to do under severe weather conditions

The examinations of HKSS are administered by the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) according to the instructions given by HKSS.

If weather conditions are doubtful (such as the possible hoisting of Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 8 or the issue of Red/Black Rainstorm Signal), candidates should listen to the radio or television broadcasting stations for examination schedules announced by the HKEAA right up to the time they leave for the examination centre.

It is important that all candidates should note the following points:

  • under normal circumstances, the HKEAA's announcement of the postponement/cancellation of an examination session will be made approximately two hours before the commencement of the examination;
  • the announcement of closure of schools due to a tropical cyclone or bad weather does not necessarily imply the postponement/cancellation of an examination scheduled to be held that day;
  • the HKEAA will make a general announcement to cover all affected "public examinations" (公開考試) or "international and professional examinations" (國際及專業考試) and specific names of HKSS examinations will not be mentioned. For example, if the HKEAA announces that all international and professional examinations (國際及專業考試) conducted by the Authority for the morning and/or afternoon sessions are cancelled, it means the HKSS examination(s) for that session(s) will also be cancelled;
  • once an examination session has started, it will continue for the full allotted time unless physical conditions in the examination room are considered to be dangerous by the Centre Supervisor.

Further information about the examination can be found in Notes to Students.
